What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy offers a space to better understand how you function, your emotions and your relationship with others and the world, with the aim of alleviating suffering and fostering fulfillment. Through compassionate, nuanced exploration, it helps you identify patterns that are detrimental to your well-being and move towards a life more aligned with your values. This therapeutic work provides a safe framework for questioning, deconstructing and transforming certain beliefs or habits when necessary. By cultivating curiosity about yourself and developing concrete tools, psychotherapy supports change and strengthens your ability to adapt to life's challenges. We encourage your autonomy and self-determination, while accompanying you with empathy and curiosity in your process of change and personal growth.

Issues addressed

In our practice, we work with people facing a variety of emotional and relational challenges, such as:

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • grief

  • trauma

  • self-esteem issues

  • identity issues, particularly in relation to sexual orientation and gender identity.

We recognize that each individual is shaped by his or her history, relationships and the social and cultural systems in which he or she evolves. We have particular expertise with people who have experienced complex trauma, including physical, sexual and organized violence, and we integrate trauma-informed practices to accompany these journeys with sensitivity and respect.

Approaches used

The psychotherapy approaches offered at Clinique euphoros include:

  • An integrative and collaborative approach, combining mainly psychodynamic and humanistic approaches, as well as relational and narrative approaches. This means that we consider each individual in all their complexity, taking into account their history, relationships and the social and cultural systems that influence them

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and evidence-based third-wave approaches including DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CF-CBT (Culturally Focused CBT), CBT-E (for eating disorders), CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Schema Therapy.

Regardless of the psychotherapy approach used, psychologists and psychotherapists at Clinique Euphoros promote an 2SLGBTQIA+ posture that is affirmative and trans-affirmative, transcultural, trauma-informed, intersectional and anti-oppressive. This perspective takes into account the complex realities of each individual, the systemic challenges they face, and the multiple contexts that shape their experience, such as family relationships, social circles, culture, religion and society as a whole.

The psychotherapeutic space is designed to be a safe, free space for self-expression, where each person can explore all facets of themselves without fear of judgment or repercussions. We value the co-construction of meaning and the exploration of life stories, allowing us to illuminate the past with care in order to better understand the present and shape the future. Depending on your needs and preferences, we can integrate tools such as metaphor, storytelling or creative expression.

Our approach is human, respectful of your realities, and focused on your needs.

Initial appointments: assessing problems and needs

The first few appointments are devoted to assessing your situation. This process enables your therapist to get to know you better by exploring the different facets of your life, your relationships, and the contexts and environments that influence you. We'll pay particular attention to your reasons for seeking help and what you hope to gain from psychotherapy. These discussions will also help determine whether psychotherapy is right for you, and whether a collaborative climate can be established between you and your therapist, based on his or her approach and expertise. In general, this assessment phase is spread over one to three appointments.

In particular, the very first appointment is intended to present the services offered and to discuss the follow-up process (payment, frequency of appointments, etc.). It will also be an opportunity to review together the aspects related to consent and confidentiality.

Follow-up appointments

Follow-up appointments will enable you to put the intervention plan into action and work towards your goals, according to your priorities and at your own pace. All this will be done in a climate of empathy and acceptance of your situation, without judgment and with openness on the part of your therapist. Your therapist will evaluate your goals with you on a regular basis, adjusting them as necessary to keep you motivated and committed to your therapeutic process.

End of therapy

The duration of psychotherapy varies from person to person, depending on the issues addressed and the goals you wish to achieve. At the end of your therapy, we'll take the time to assess your progress. This termination process, which may take several appointments, is designed to support you in bringing your therapy to a close. It will also be an opportunity to explore possible complementary resources or services that could meet your longer-term needs.
