Support in gender transition
What is sexological support in the context of gender transition?
Sexological support is a personalised intervention designed to help people find their sexual balance, in relation with their transition (questions about gender identity, coming out, discrimination, etc.). This support is aimed at people:
questioning their gender identity
in gender transition or who have completed their gender transition
in detransition or considering detransition
who need a letter of recommendation for hormone therapy and for an administrative change of sex and legal name.
Sexological support helps to improve sexual health by making it easier to understand the current situation and to find concrete solutions in line with your needs and pace. To meet your objectives, the sexologist will be able to inform you about the gender transition process (e.g. hormone therapy, affirmation surgery). She will provide support to help you navigate the changes that the transition will bring to your sexual life and your relationships.
The issues addressed in sexology may include :
Body image and sexual fulfilment
Gender identity and sexual roles
Sexual orientation and eroticism
Communication, intimacy and seduction
Separations and break-ups
Marital and love difficulties
Pregnancy, contraception and STIs
Sexual and domestic violence (support for victims)
The links between sexuality and physical health (sexual dysfunctions, illnesses, etc.)
The influence of social networks, and sex education
Letters of recommendation can usually be issued after one or two appointments (following a brief but rigorous assessment according to the WPATH (World Professional Association For Transgender Health) Standards of Care (Version 8) for trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people).
Our approach is human, respectful of your realities, and focused on your needs.
First appointments : the assessment
The first few appointments are devoted to assessing your situation and the problems you are experiencing. This process enables your sexologist to identify your issues by exploring your current sexual difficulties in relation to your sexual development and past experiences. These appointments help to determine your objectives, i.e. the areas where you wish to improve your sexual behaviour and the thoughts and emotions associated with intimacy and sexuality. An intervention plan will be drawn up jointly to meet these objectives.
In particular, the aim of the very first appointment is to present the services offered and to discuss the follow-up process (payment, frequency of appointments, etc.). It will also be an opportunity to review together the aspects relating to consent and confidentiality.
Follow-up appointments
The 60-minute follow-up appointments will enable you to put the intervention plan into action and support you in improving your sexual health. Your sexologist will work with you towards your objectives, according to your priorities and at your own pace. All this will be done in a climate of empathy and acceptance of your situation, without judgement and with openness on the part of your sexologist.
